Published:Scoring goals at Championship level is one thing, but regularly locating the onion bag in the Premier League is a whole different ball game (well technically it’s not).
But it’s much, much harder as many have found out following promotion to the Promised Land, as one-time Preston North End striker David Nugent discovered after signing for Portsmouth during the summer of 2007.
Having bagged himself 15 goals in the second tier the Scouser then failed to register a single one in 15 top-flight Pompey appearances during the 2007/08 campaign.
In two further seasons taking in a loan spell at Burnley, the Foxes striker only compiled a tally of nine in 64 total Premier League appearances.
Despite such a modest return this hasn’t prevented the one-cap, one-goal wonder from claiming he is hopeful of resurrecting his England career now Leicester have made it back to the big time.
“I’ve just turned 29 and there aren’t a lot of English strikers who scored a lot of goals in the Premier League last season,” said Nugent.
“You’ve got Rickie, Jay Rodriguez, Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney who hit 10 goals or more.”
While it may well be the case that Leicester’s top scorer of last season with 20 league goals – adding to tallies of 14 and 15 in previous seasons – has improved his game since his previous Premier League spell, it will be very interesting to see how he fares.
Players such as West Brom’s Saido Berahino, Sunderland striker Connor Wickham, Three-Lions hopeful Frazier Campbell and even welcomed-back Aston Villa man Darren Bent, will surely have a thing or two to say as well.
Nugent’s first opportunity to back-up his claims arrives at home to Everton on the opening day, where the Foxes hotshot is 9/4 to bag any time.
