QPR, Palace and Villa all in the race to sign Holtby from Spurs
Published:There have been more stop starts to Lewis Holtby’s Tottenham career than a trip from Brixton to Seven Sisters Road on the Victoria Line but finally the German international looks to be heading for the exit door at White Hart Lane.
The 23-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham, has been deemed surplus to requirements at the north London club by Mauricio Pochettino, putting a number of Premier League clubs on alert.
Spurs signed Holtby in January 2013 for a cut-price £1.5m but after a succession of managers, the German has failed to nail down a place in the starting XI.
And with Pochettino looking to trim his squad and the wage bill as the new season gets underway the former Schalke midfielder has been told he can look for a new club.
Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is always on the look-out to strengthen his squad and after his side’s 1-0 opening day defeat to Hull it is no surprise to see the former Spurs manager at the front of the queue to take Holtby to Loftus Road.
But Redknapp, whose side are 5/4 with Ladbrokes for relegation after their opening day defeat to Hull, will face strong competition from the Premier League with Crystal Palace and Aston Villa all likely to in the running for the player’s signature.
Managerless Palace have been linked to the midfielder in the past but if former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood gets the role it will be interesting to see whether he looks to buy a player he placed on the transfer list himself back in January.
Aston Villa, who surprised many with their victory over Stoke, completed a deal to bring Colombian Carlos Sanchez to Villa Park and manager Paul Lambert has promised to do even more business before the transfer window closes.

A wide player is thought to be on the Villans’ radar and Holtby, who has featured three times for Germany, could fit the bill for Lambert’s men.
