Man City v Chelsea: Under’s the safest ground in title clash

| 20.09.2014

Sunday’s live televised clash sees a potentially title-shaping showdown between Premier League champions Manchester City and favourites for their crown Chelsea, where a loss for the hosts would be catastrophic.

A Chelsea victory, priced at 2-1, would see them extend the gap on 11/8 chances City to a full eight points, while the draw, which also suits the visitors far more, is deemed a 12/5 shot.

On current form alone Chelsea are a very tempting bet, though Liverpool have already been picked off in clinical fashion by City at the Etihad, rendering it too tricky to back a winner with any confidence.

Here are three best alternative punts on this mega clash instead:

Chelsea: Draw no bet @ 11/10

Jose Mourinho scored a double over City last season, but whereas Fernando Torres’ last-minute winner at Stamford Bridge owed much to opportunism, victory at the Etihad was a tactical masterclass.

While City must have learnt some lessons from that galling 1-0 defeat, Manuel Pellegrini’s side will probably hold more fear and on current performances the league leaders must be worth a punt with the draw as cover.

Under 2.5 goals @ 1/1

Four of the last six encounters in all competitions between light and dark blue have skirted under the 2.5 goals marker, including the last two.

With the stakes so high the intensity of these games can often lead to the two teams cancelling one another out, while you have to go back eight league games between these foes for a match which surpassed 3.5 goals.

Yaya Toure to score any time @ 2/1

There are so many players in either squad with potential to settle the contest, not least teh headline acts of Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa.

However, Toure bagged 20 Premier League goals last season, three more than Aguero, and the marauding Ivorian is certainly due to open his season’s account soon.
