Published:Naturally, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s announcement that they’ll soon be expecting their second child has whipped the country’s odd compilers into a royalty betting frenzy.
And since we’re never ones to miss out on a novelty-inspired bandwagon we thought we’d get in on the act to see if there really is any value to be had.
As it stands the bookies make it 4/5 that Kate has another boy with Ladbrokes pricing up James as the 6/1 favourite name choice.
Meanwhile, the outcome of a sister for Prince George being born around March next year is currently an evens-shot with Elizabeth topping the list of girl’s names at 8/1.
Can we read anything at all into these markets?
In what’s predicted to be one the biggest novelty betting markets of the year there’s bound to be plenty of speculation.
However, is it wiser to simply stick with following tried and tested royal trends?
Charles (10/1) and Elizabeth (8/1) are always likely to attract punters because of their respective links to family members Prince Charles and the Queen.
Although Victoria (10/1) is another interesting fancy given its royal past with the less traditional choices of Carole (66/1) and Colin (200/1) best avoided.
Of course, if reports are to be believed, there could be a link between Kate’s acute morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum) and giving birth to twins (yes, this story has resurfaced).
It’s 20/1 that we hear the pitter patter of two pairs of tiny feet when Kate gives birth while you can get 100/1 for triplets and a whopping 500/1 for quads or more.
