Saints’ scoring star part of each-way trio for Golden Boot

Published:

Diego Costa could have already locked the Premier League’s Golden Boot award in his shiny new London trophy cabinet after starting his debut campaign at Chelsea with seven goals in four outings.

But while Costa makes every other forward in the division feel insignificant, there are a couple from the league’s midriff whose starts to the season should encourage an each-way flutter, which would pay out at a quarter of the odds if they finish in the first four:

Graziano Pelle – Southampton – 40/1

With Rickie Lambert gone, Shane Long used in a wide-forward position and Jay Rodriguez yet to return from injury, Pelle is free to furrow through the centre of Saints attacks for a while.

So far he’s made a decent fist of it, scoring three goals in his last two top-flight outings as well as in the Capital One Cup that preceded them.

After scoring 27 and 23 league goals in his two seasons with Feyenoord, Pelle looks to be settling in for another impressive haul this term.

Leonardo Ulloa – Leicester – 66/1

The Foxes’ record signing from Brighton has scored all bar one of Leicester’s four goals since their return to the English top table.

Having been played in a 4-4-2 formation with Dave Nugent thus far, it’s clear Ulloa will benefit from an unyielding style being employed by Nigel Pearson at the King Power Stadium.

If the Championship title holders are to survive the season with the big boys, Ulloa’s performances will be central.

Nacer Chadli – Tottenham – 100/1

Although not a central striker, like the other two selections, the Belgian has managed the same number of goals as them from one less start.

As one of a host of frustrating new recruits at White Hart Lane last season, Chadli needs a better showing this term and looks to be on the cusp of achieving it.

Having started all of Spurs’ last three league games, the former FC Twente star looks set for a run in the first team, whereby he can continue his scoring form.
