Zero to hero: Man United fans call for Fellaini derby start

Published:

What a difference a year makes! This time last season Manchester United fans would have gladly packed Marouane Fellaini in a car with David Moyes and sent them both packing from Old Trafford.

The big Belgian was a mere shadow of the man that towered over defenders while at Everton but bizarrely the Belgian has blossomed of late without Moyes at the helm.

Such is the drastic nature of his turnaround, , when asked by the Manchester Evening News a whopping 93 per cent of Manchester United fans have voted for the midfielder to retain his place in the starting line-up for this weekend’s derby with Manchester City.

Fellaini scored his first goal for the club against West Brom recently and used that confidence boost to shackle Cesc Fabregas in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with league leaders Chelsea.

And the Belgian’s form – along with the Old Trafford faithful’s vote of confidence – has seen the midfielder made the subject of Ladbrokes’ latest Breaking Bets series.

The bookmaker has gone 13/2 that Fellaini’s journey from United zero to hero continues its upward trend with an anytime goal against the Citizens priced at 13/2.

City go into the game as favourites, priced at 5/6 for the win, while United are billed as 3/1 underdogs and the draw can be backed at 14/5.

Fellaini scored in Everton’s 1-1 draw with City in 2012 in a season where the Toffees took four points from the two meetings and should his new found form rub off on United the 13/2 on him netting on derby day could prove to be the bet of the afternoon.
