Meet the Porto sensation poised to nudge Suso out of Liverpool

Published:

He’s only 17 but Porto’s Ruben Neves is already on the wanted list of several other top European clubs including Liverpool, which could have a domino effect on another of the Reds’ young stars.

Having made similar waves as an 18-year-old breaking into the Liverpool first-team, Suso’s Anfield future has now been cast into serious doubt.

The young Spaniard was farmed out to Almeria on loan during Liverpool’s most impressive Premier League campaign to date last season and the influx of fresh faces brought to Merseyside over the last transfer window hasn’t helped his cause either.

With his current deal due to expire in the summer of 2015, AC Milan are among the notable suitors reported to be keeping tabs on the 20-year-old.

And given the latest reports linking Liverpool to a possible swoop for Porto’s emerging midfield maestro Neves, the youngest ever league scorer for the former Champions League winners, Suso is an obvious candidate to make way.

Neves opened the scoring on his full senior debut during Porto’s domestic curtain raiser at home to Maritimo and immediately had the likes of Juventus and Liverpool taking notes.

Since then Neves has now made his Champions League bow as well, coming on just over the hour mark to take part in Porto’s 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao.

Neves is more defensively minded than Suso, preferring to play in the centre of midfield, but his precision passing and technical ability at such a tender age have marked him out for stardom.

Suso is highly unlikely to feature in Liverpool’s crunch European tie at home to Real Madrid next, where the hosts are the big 7/2 outsiders for the win, having only made an extra-time appearance this season against Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup.
