Rudiger reveals love of Arsenal to quash Chelsea transfer talk

| 23.10.2014

Chelsea target Antonio Rudiger has crushed any talk of a move to Stamford Bridge after revealing his heart belongs with Arsenal.

The German international has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks with Chelsea and Manchester United both interested in signing the 20-year-old.

But both clubs could find it difficult to lure the Stuttgart man after he revealing his love for the Gunners.

“I have always dreamed of the Premier League,” he told Bild.

“I have been following Arsenal since the days of Henry and Bergkamp. I watch videos of Arsenal all the time on YouTube and I often wear the current Alexis Sanchez shirt.

“My heart beats for Arsenal.”

It could prove to be the dream scenario for Arsene Wenger, who is desperate to strengthen his defensive options in January.

Last night, the Gunners’ defence was not quite up to scratch after Anderlecht took the lead in the 71st minute through Andy Najar’s header.

But two goals in the last two minutes spared Wenger’s blushes and the Frenchman, whose side are 20/1 to lift the Champions League, knows he has to bring in defensive reinforcements when the transfer window opens.

Rudiger, who is regarded as one of the best young defenders in European football, stated his support of Arsenal, has featured four times for Germany and while he is a centre-back by trade he can also fill in at full-back.

Chelsea were reportedly in talks over a £7m deal in January but after the German star’s revelation of his support for Arsenal Wenger should move quickly to tie up a much needed boost for his fledgling defence that has kept just four clean sheets in 15 matches in all competitions.

And with both Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny out injured Rudiger’s versatility would be a huge asset as Wenger tries to haul his side, who are a 33/1 shot to win the league, back into the title race.
