Southampton v Leicester: Foxes in for a torrid time at St. Mary’s

Published:

Leicester are the next side tasked with trying to stop high-flying Southampton as they make the daunting trip to the south coast to face Ronald Koeman’s men.

After their brilliant form in recent weeks Southampton are the 4/9 favourties for victory, while Leicester are 6/1 to snap out of a slump which has seen them suffer three successive defeats.

But with the draw available at 16/5 and nothing but a Southampton win on the cards for the Ladbrokes News team, Oliver Yew takes a look at three alternative bets for the action.

Southampton -1 @ 11/10

The wheels have fallen off for Leicester after a very promising start to the season and with Nigel Pearson’s side on a run of three straight defeats and without a win in five, a trip to in-from Southampton is not ideal.

The Saints are flying high sitting in second in the Premier League and have suffered just one defeat in their last 12 matches in all competitions.

It’s at home where they have been mightily impressive though, scoring 15 goals in four league matches and we are backing them to beat the -1 handicap against the Foxes.

Southampton to win to nil @ 5/4

With just one goal conceded in five Premier League home matches so far this season the Saints have one of the best defensive home records in the league.

And with the Foxes firing blanks at the moment – they have not found the net in any of their last three league matches – a home win to nil looks very much on the cards.

Southampton to win 2-0 @ 11/2

We’ve already mentioned Southampton’s strong defensive resolve at St Mary’s and coupled with a look at the history books between these two sides it could pay to back a 2-0 home victory.

With only one goal conceded in front of their home fans so far this term, Koeman’s men are a tight defensive unit and with Leicester only scoring twice on their last five visits to the south coast a win to nil looks an excellent bet.

And with two of the last Championship meetings between the two sides at St Mary’s ending in a 2-0 home win we are backing a repeat here.
