Arsenal must pay close attention to these three potential Dortmund buys

Provided the #WengerOut mob don’t get their way in the next few weeks, that man Arsene will be around to, hopefully, splash some cash on his Arsenal squad this January.

While the Frenchman’s scouting network is no doubt scouring the globe looking for the men that can transform the north London club’s fortunes, the latest visitors to the Emirates could provide a few recruits to the Gunners’ plight this winter.

Borussia Dortmund, currently struggling in the Bundesliga, visit Wenger’s squad in the Champions League next, with Arsenal 11/8 to win. A number of their squad could end up wearing red this season, if the Frenchman keeps his wits about him:

Mats Hummels

The common consensus in the red tops is that the Dortmund skipper will be a Manchester United player at some point in the future, but the player himself has never committed one way or the other, despite admitting a keenness to move to England.

Forming a partnership with Per Mertesacker could appeal to the World Cup winner, who would have plenty of compatriots in the squad to help him settle in should he plump for Arsenal over the Red Devils.

Sven Bender

Arsenal are keen on adding a German defensive midfielder to their number sooner rather than later, except they’ve been targeting the costly Sami Khedira of Real Madrid up to now.

Not only is Bender a cheaper alternative to the former Stuttgart man, but he is also younger and has less of a chequered history with injuries.

Marcel Schmelzer

Schmelzer is an experienced left-back, having made 148 appearances for Dortmund since breaking into the first team in 2008.

However, the 26-year-old has made just two starts in BVB’s troubled Bundesliga campaign so far and could be persuaded to jump ship for a new challenge replacing Nacho Monreal as Kieran Gibbs’ rival in London.
