Why Redknapp’s latest bargain bin find should worry QPR fans

Harry Redknapp may be about to dip his hand back into the bargain bin of footballers labelled “out-of-contract” in a bid to solve Queen Park Rangers’ defensive woes and the results could be far from good news for fans of the Rs.
The manager formerly known as a wheeler-dealer has delved deep for his latest recruit: a 30-year-old former Catania defender by the name of Pablo Alvarez.
Once of Boca Juniors and later Estudiantes, the Argentine has been without a club since leaving the Sicilians following their relegation to Serie B last term.
Alvarez is certainly accustomed to experiencing that sinking feeling – he played for Real Zaragoza on loan during the 2012/13 season, a campaign that ended with the club dropping down into the Segunda Division in rock bottom place.
And according to quotes from his English agent, which come from Goal and have been published by The Evening Standard, the defender is keen on a move to Loftus Road.
“Pablo has been considering his options, but he has always harboured the ambition to play in the Premier League and when the chance to talk with QPR and Harry came up, he jumped at the opportunity,” Barry McIntosh told the news provider.
QPR have been linked with several big name defenders in recent weeks, with former Porto, Napoli and Inter Milan star Rolando previously linked with a move to the capital.
It comes amid rumours that former Manchester United stopper Rio Ferdinand could depart the club come January, having failed to find much in the way of form for the Hoops.
Rangers have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight competitive outings and head to St James Park this Saturday to face a Newcastle side in rampant form, having won five on the trot going into this game.
