Chelsea pensioner boosted for first goal against Everton

In the absence of suspended top goalscorer Diego Costa, Jose Mourinho will once again turn to one of his able deputies against Everton and if he has done his homework that will be Didier Drogba.

Mourinho did unleash the Chelsea legend at Aston Villa last time out, but against the Toffees Drogba’s scoring record is impeccable.

The Ivorian powerhouse has notched seven times in his last nine Premier League starts against the blue half of Merseyside, so a gentle nudge in his manager’s side may well have been forthcoming.

Ladbrokes customers could well be some of the main beneficiaries if Drogba is afforded the start thanks to the firm’s latest price boost.

The bookmakers have injected some air into Drogba’s price to score the first goal of the game from 7/2, out to 5/1.

A little long in the tooth he might be, but even at 36 there’s still plenty of bite in those extensive gnashers which is why Mourinho has called upon Drog 28 times already this season and been rewarded by six goals.

Having already found the net against Manchester United and Tottenham in the top-flight this season, there’s still plenty of life in the old Drog yet.

Other factors working in the favour of this bet coming off include Everton’s 19-match stretch without winning in the league at the Bridge.

What is more, the league leaders have kept 15 clean sheets in 19 home matches this season, so a first goal for the Blues is certainly the most probable outcome.
