FA Cup: The standout, top price bet for Aston Villa v Leicester

Published:

Two sides who have sacked their manager over the past week face off when Leicester travel to Aston Villa in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Well…Foxes boss Nigel Pearson seems to have been given his marching orders before being saved by the chairman’s son, according to Gary Lineker anyway.

It doesn’t get much better for the hosts, who, fresh from finally seeing the end of Paul Lambert’s desperately dull tenure in charge at Villa Park, must now face up to the prospect that chairman Randy Lerner is reportedly in talks with former Spurs boss Tim ‘not nice and dim’ Sherwood.

What we know for sure is that these two sides are struggling like mad to score goals recently.

Rather famously, Villa went six scoreless Premier League games after drawing 1-1 with Manchester United in their last pre-Xmas fixture, with centre-half Jores Okore eventually ending that run in a 2-1 loss to Chelsea last time out at home.

They reverted to type away to Hull in Lambert’s last game in charge, going down limply 2-0.

Leicester haven’t been a lot better, notching just three times in five top-flight games since drawing 2-2 against Liverpool at Anfield on New Year’s Day.

All the recent evidence strongly points to under 2.5 goals at a top price of 3/4 with Ladbrokes, which has come up on eight of the last 14 combined all-competition fixtures these two have played, including in their Premier League fixture at the King Power a month ago.

Pearson’s boys won 1-0 that day, but 6/4 (another top price) about Villa looks massive considering Leicester have lost 15 of their past 22 matches against top-flight opposition and currently sit bottom of the Premier League, five points behind their Midlands rivals.
