Shakhtar Donetsk v Bayern Munich: We’ve Gotze back the Bavarians

Published:

Having spent the past two months busying themselves with friendlies, Shakhtar Donetsk may be more than a little perturbed to see Bayern Munich warm up for their Champions League encounter with an 8-0 victory over Hamburg.

While the Ukraine side have had to make do with games against AaB, Internacional and Dinamo Zagreb among other, the Bavarians have been getting back to their very best.

A 4-1 loss to Wolfsburg at the start of the month may have given Shakhtar some encouragement but after racking up two wins and ten goals in just over a week, it’s Pep Guardiola’s team who must surely be backed to come out on top.

The Donetsk side are 8/1 to win at home according to Ladbrokes with the draw priced at 15/4 but with Bayern just 4/11 to win, we’ve picked out three rather more tempting tips to help you score big with the Bavarians.

Mario Gotze to score and Bayern Munich to win @ 15/8

Though Arjen Robben also remains a tempting prospect to score, we’ve plumped for Germany’s golden boy of the World Cup in Brazil.

Gotze has been in good form in front of goal, scoring two in Bayern’s 8-0 victory over Hamburg while it’s his European record that begs attention with the 22-year-old netting three times in the Champions League group stage including a goal against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Bayern Munich (-2) to beat Shakhtar Donetsk @ 12/5

With Shakhtar likely to be rusty following two months of non-competitive action, Bayern could be the beneficiaries with the German side riding high after their last result and proving similarly prolific on the road in Europe.

Roma were thrashed 7-1 in Italy and, despite racking up 12 goals against BATE Borisow home and away, Shakhtar have struggled for points at home in European competition losing to Athletic Bilbao and drawing with Porto.

A three-goal Bayern win could therefore be on the cards given the wealth of attacking options at Guardiola’s disposal.

Luiz Adriano to score any time @ 10/3

Though Shakhtar seem unlikely to cause Bayern many in the way of problems they could get on the scoresheet in Ukraine.

Both Wolfsburg and Schalke have already found the next against Bayern in 2015 and if one man is going to score it is Brazilian Luiz Adriano.

The 27-year-old scored nine goals in five group stage appearances for Shakhtar and netted in home ties against Porto and BATE making him a worthy pick to score for the hosts.
