Southampton v Liverpool: Reds to take giant leap in top-four race

Published:

Southampton entertain Liverpool in the final fixture of the Premier League weekend and any Ladbrokes customers who’ve looked at the form book will be greatly encouraged by the visitors’ price.

Of course, a win for either club would do wonders for their top-four ambitions with only four points the difference between the fifth-placed Saints and the Reds in seventh.

Southampton are the marginal 29/20 favourites for the win, the draw is 23/10 and Liverpool are the 2/1 outsiders, which is the first port of call on the best bets for the contest.

Liverpool to beat Southampton @ 2/1

As alluded to above, no side in the Premier League can claim better form than Brendan Rodgers’ men, who’ve taken 14 of the last 18 available points.

The Europa League win in midweek was Liverpool’s fifth in six matches, but it’s Southampton’s recent troubles at home which add more zing to this bet.

Koeman’s side have been anything but Saintly at St.Mary’s of late, going four games in all competitions without tasting victory and only winning twice at home in seven top-flight outings.

Liverpool: Draw no bet @ 21/20

This bet this looks like a great covering option. Three of Southampton’s last five across league and FA Cup finished level in front of their own, while there’s a chance Liverpool may feel the pinch of a return to European action on Thursday.

Raheem Sterling to score anytime @ 11/4

Left on the bench in the Europa League after a short period out through injury it would be a real shock if Rodgers’ didn’t recall Sterling from the start at St.Mary’s, especially if the manager has done his homework.

The fleet-footed forward bagged the opener to send Liverpool on their way to victory at Anfield in the return fixture – his second goal in as many top-flight appearances against Southampton.
