Put Kane straight into England team, says Soccer Saturday pundit

| 19.03.2015

Roy Hodgson’s decision to call-up Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to the senior England squad may not have come as too much of a surprise given his outstanding form this season.

But the inevitable media circus surrounding how best to manage the Spurs talent has already begun in earnest ahead of upcoming games against Lithuania and Italy.

And wading into the debate is Ladbrokes ambassador, Chris Kamara.

Is Kane is ready to be thrust into the senior fold and how will decisions on his Three Lions involvement impact upon those with vested interests?

For Kammy, the solution is clear.

“Stick Harry Kane straight in now. He’s playing with so much confidence and belief” he told Ladbrokes News.

“Don’t let that disappear. You want him to be a handful. It can only be a good thing to throw him in.”

England play Lithuania in a Euro 2016 qualifier on March 27 with a friendly against Italy in Turin just a few days later.

But it’s not just those two fixtures that could pose a selection headache for national team and club bosses.

Having scored 26 goals in 42 games so far this term it’s no surprise that the 21-year-old is in demand with Hodgson and under-21 manager Gareth Southgate both wanting to harness his talents.

Southgate will have to make do without Kane for his side’s games against the Czech Republic and Germany but may come calling when the Young Lions head to the European Championships this summer.

“England want to win tournaments and he [Kane] probably wants to do the same” Kammy added.

“If you look at the big players from the past they all played in youth teams and had success in them. We have to be careful not to miss out on that. I understand where the clubs are coming from but just give him a longer holiday and more time to recover at the end of the season.”
