Where Man Utd’s latest £150m ‘revamp’ money will go this summer

| 08.04.2015

It seems like only eight months ago since Manchester United splurged the best part of £150m trying to fix their squad, because it was, but the tabloids have been out in force claiming Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal will be handed around the same figure to ‘revamp’ the Red Devils this summer.

After such a monster 2014 outlay, there’s plenty of noise regarding who United might buy before September. Here are our best guesses:

Mats Hummels (£30m)

Hummels6-12-14This whisper has become more of a shout in recent weeks, after the World Cup-winning Germany centre-half admitted in an interview that he would like to play abroad at some stage of his career.

There have also been reports that the 26-year-old has informed Die Mannschaft teammates he is heading to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign, after seven seasons with Borussia Dortmund, and the Express recently claimed that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had gained the same assurance from Hummels.

Dani Alves (Free)

Dani-AlvesThe Express reported before Christmas that the Brazilian had preliminarily agreed to sign for the Red Devils this summer, quoting claims from FIFA agent Francois Gallardo.

There hasn’t been such strong talk since, with the likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain also thought to be interested, but United look favourites to secure the Barcelona right-back’s signature when his Camp Nou contract runs out at the end of the season.

Paul Pogba (£50m)

Pogba 8 2 15With Van Gaal’s former Netherlands captain Kevin Strootman out until summer at the earliest, the Roma man looks extremely unlikely to move to Old Trafford, but United could be heading to Serie A for a midfield all-rounder nonetheless.

Pogba left the Theatre of Dreams under a cloud two-and-a-half years ago, after Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t show enough confidence in his clear abilities.

With the great man gone, a return may be on the cards, with United and Chelsea both thought to be preparing bids.

Memphis Depay(£20m)

Memphis-Depay-2-4-15The same Express story that claimed Hummels has assured United’s bigwigs he will make the journey from Germany this summer also reported that this Oranje wing-forward’s signing is as good as done.

Depay has bagged 19 goals in 24 Eredivisie appearances for PSV this term and knows Van Gaal well, having turned out four times for Netherlands under the Iron Tulip at the last World Cup.

Edinson Cavani (£50m)

Cavani14-02-15Taking one £50m striker from Ligue 1, in on-loan Monaco mystery Radamel Falcao, hasn’t really worked out for the Red Devils, but talk that they’ll move for PSG’s Uruguayan hotshot won’t go away.

Cavani clearly doesn’t like being shoved out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the Parc des Princes, and with United one of the few sides able to afford him that currently play two up top, this switch can’t be ruled out.
