The top Arsenal and Liverpool hat-trick candidates include rebel

A collision between Arsenal and Liverpool always grabs the attention and, in the Premier League era, the fixture is a byword for entertainment.

No fewer than eight 90th-minute goals have flown in over the past 12 league meetings alone, while at either venue it last produced a stalemate way back in 1998, when Arsenal still had the taste of title-winning bubbly on their lips.

Five hat-tricks have been witnessed since the old first division was replaced, the most in Premier League history, and seeing as there’s been a five-year gap it feels high time there was another one.

Here are the best candidates from either side:

Arsenal

1. Olivier Giroud @ 25/1
The Frenchman is the shortest price for very good reason. He’s bagged nine times in as many appearances leading into this game.

2. Alexis Sanchez @ 40/1
Sanchez’s Midas touch in front of goal may have lessened since the turn of the year, but the Chilean is more than capable of bursting back into life, especially being among the highest number of shot takers inside the box across anyone in the Premier League over his last four league outings.

3. Santi Cazorla @ 100/1
Twice a scorer against the Reds in the last three seasons, Arsenal’s penalty taker is always a danger around the box and bagged a brace at the Emirates earlier in the campaign against Newcastle.

Liverpool

1. Daniel Sturridge @ 80/1
After returning from injury the goals have not been as forthcoming as Reds fans had hoped, though the man who grabbed a quarter century for his club last season, will draw confidence from his instinctive strike against Manchester United last time out.

2. Raheem Sterling @ 250/1
The young forward bagged twice in the 5-1 rout of the Gunners last season and in a week where he’s taken more heat that a Bermudan deckchair over his contract situation, Sterling will be keen to hit back at his critics with a big performance.

3. Philippe Coutinho @ 500/1
Having scored a collection of screamers in recent times Coutinho is far from an outrageous shout, especially as he bagged in the return fixture earlier this season.
