3 Epsom Oaks horses to follow: Jazzi Top, Fluff and a 50/1 shot

Published:

The late Sir Henry Cecil was the last trainer to record back-to-back victories in the Epsom Oaks when watching Ramruna land the spoils in 1999 before Love Divine followed up 12 months later.

John Gosden still holds seven entries as he plans to double up on Taghrooda’s triumph last June and it is one of this septet that heads our three horses to monitor in the Epsom Oaks betting between now and June 5th.

Jazzi Top – 12/1

The Pretty Polly Stakes has certainly proved the most worthwhile Oaks trial to follow in 2013 and 2014 with Talent and Taghrooda both using victory in the Newmarket contest as a springboard to repeating the feat at Epsom.

A run in the Oaks was not truly on the radar of Jazzi Top before her victory in the Pretty Polly Stakes, but she appeared to appreciate the step up in trip to 1m2f and could come on again for another rise to 1m4f.

Famed Racing Post tipster Tom Segal has put her forward as one of his two bets for the Oaks.

Fluff – 12/1

Unsurprisingly, Aidan O’Brien has an even bigger team of Oaks possibles, with 11 entered in total.

Diamondsandrubies won the Cheshire Oaks trial by six lengths, Found was favourite for the 1,000 Guineas before pulling out late on and Kissed By Angels was an easy winner of the Irish Guineas trial at Leopardstown.

However, the unknown in the O’Brien camp appears to be Fluff.

Fluff is a sister to last year’s well-backed 1,000 Guineas third, Maybe, and has only been since on course once so far, striding clear to win a maiden at Navan last month.

She holds numerous Group-class entries and could shorten substantially for the Oaks if seen in a good light in the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh on May 24th.

Pandora – 50/1

Another one-race wonder at present is Charlie Hills’ Pandora, who came from last to first at 25/1 to win a Doncaster maiden in March over 1m2f.

The form hasn’t been especially well franked since, but Pandora does hold an entry into the Musidora Stakes, where an eye-catching run against Star Of Seville, another of Gosden’s Epsom fancies, could see her price contract markedly.

Pandora looks open to any amount of improvement and is arguably the one horse at monster Oaks odds worth a small stake on now.
