Poll reaction: Pogba release is Fergie’s biggest transfer gaffe

Allowing talented French midfielder Paul Pogba to leave Old Trafford was the biggest transfer mistake of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United career, according to a new poll.
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon recently questioned Fergie’s wisdom in allowing the midfield maestro to leave the Red Devils, saying the Scot’s prescription glasses must have failed him because it was clear to all in Turin that he had the talent to be a world beater from the very beginning.
And it seems the majority of football fans agree with the Italian’s sentiment after 50 per cent of the votes from today’s poll saw Pogba highlighted as Fergie’s biggest gaffe.
Ferguson believed he had wrapped up a deal for the Samba ace once he had decided to leave French giants PSG but the Scot hadn’t banked on a last-minute bid for the Catalan side, which Ronaldinho ultimately deemed too good to turn down.
A large portion of voters feel United would have greatly benefited from the attacker’s arrivals, with 31 per cent citing this as Ferguson’s biggest mistake.
Completing the top three was Portuguese flop Bebe, who attracted eight per cent of the votes.
The wayward winger arrived under a cloud of suspicion for over £7m but was quickly sent packing after hitting row z with a number of misplaced crosses and shots.
David Beckham is still fondly remembered by United fans but it seems many feel Ferguson got rid of the dead-ball specialist the right time, with just seven per cent of voters claiming his exit for Real Madrid was premature.
And surprisingly expensive Argentine flop Juan Sebastian Veron attracted just four per cent of the overall votes despite arriving from Lazio to a huge fanfare only to underwhelm more than a Karate Kid remake and swiftly be sold to Chelsea at a huge loss.
United’s decision to allow Pogba to leave might truly come back to haunt them too, with rivals Manchester City reportedly attempting to woo him back to Manchester. Fergie will really have to start worrying about those noisy neighbours if that does happen!
