Why Chelsea will benefit from loanee’s Man Utd flop

Published:

After 29 games and four goals, Radamel Falcao’s underwhelming Manchester United career looks to be at an end.

The Colombian, who arrived at Old Trafford last summer in a pricey loan deal from Monaco, is certain to be cast aside by Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal at the earliest opportunity. But that doesn’t mean his stay in England is over.

According to reports, the former Porto and Atletico Madrid hotshot is moving ever closer to completing a deal to join Chelsea.

As and when that news breaks, Twitter will no doubt explode with the appropriate amount of joking and sarcasm, but it could work out that Jose Mourinho has played yet another shrewd transfer hand in west London.

The Portuguese has been a long-standing admirer of the 29-year-old frontman and believes he can get the best out of him should he be able to snap up his services this off season.

The striker himself, who is yet to discover his top form since suffering a knee injury that ruled him out of the 2014 World Cup, is also keen to remain in England following his Man Utd release.

That could prove to be the telling factor in his future performances, as the Santa Marta native sets out to correct the growing reputation that he is a Premier League flop.

Chelsea are in the market for another striker after it was confirmed that fan favourite Didier Drogba will once again leave the club this summer.

Should Falcao become the man to replace the iconic Ivorian, and Mourinho works his magic to help him relocate his scoring touch, then the 11/8 about a second successive Premier League title for the Stamford Bridge club looks quite long.
