Man Utd taking notes as Spurs consider selling fans’ favourite

Since Tottenham signed right-back Kieran Trippier from Burnley at the end of last week, rumourville has flip-flopped from linking Lilywhites flyer DeAndre Yedlin with Norwich on loan to talk of Kyle Walker exiting White Hart Lane this summer.
The Telegraph reported the Yedlin/Norwich link while Trippier completed his medical ahead of a £3.5m move from Turf Moor, citing former Spurs right-back Kyle Naughton’s temporary stay at Carrow Road as a precedent of sorts.
However, a story in the Daily Mail over the weekend suggests Walker could be the man to make way for Trippier in Pochettino’s plans, after the 25-year-old managed just 15 Premier League appearances during the Argentine’s first season in north London.
Intriguingly, the paper also claims Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will lower the £20m valuation allegedly quoted to Manchester United for Walker during the January transfer window, with new England number one right-back Nathaniel Clyne likely to leave Southampton for less.
No doubt there’ll be plenty of suitors for the former Sheffield United man, with United and Liverpool, both of whom have been eyeing up Clyne, mentioned alongside Stoke, West Ham and Sunderland.
That being said, if Spurs are prepared to sell Walker for a discount fee then questions will be asked as to why.
Walker missed the last nine games of the 2013/14 season through injury, and didn’t manage an appearance under Pochettino until mid-December last term, 24 matches into the campaign, although he did start all but one of his side’s next 16 Premier League fixtures.
After returning to the England squad ahead of the 1-1 friendly draw with Italy in March, Walker’s latest injury, which saw him sit out the last seven games of 2014/15, has seen him fall further behind Clyne in the Three Lions pecking order; boss Roy Hodgson is known to be a fan, yet left the Spurs man out of his latest squad.
If Levy and Pochettino want rid, Walker will surely struggle to secure a move to another top-six club.
