Poll: Who should Man United sign to replace Robin van Persie?

Published:

Robin van Persie’s Manchester United career looks likely to end in the coming weeks with talk of a £10m sale to Juventus refusing to die down.

The Dutchman himself said the Red Devils need a 20-goal a season striker to once again challenge for the league but the 31-year-old’s injury history means he is unlikely to be that man.

As such we’re asking the Ladbrokes News readers to have their say on who should step up or move to Old Trafford to fill RVP’s boots.

Have a look at the top five contenders below and then have your say in today’s poll.

Gonzalo Higuain – Napoli

The Napoli man bagged an impressive 29 goals in 59 games last season, meaning he has now reached double figures in each of his last seven campaigns.

Reports this morning suggest the Argentine has already agreed terms with the Red Devils but after bagging 107 goals in 190 games in his time with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal are also rumoured to be interested.

Karim Benzema – Real Madrid

United have been heavily linked with the powerful Frenchman since his Lyon days and talk of a bid this summer is once again on the rise.

He may operate in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale at the Bernabeu but still managed to bag 22 goals last term, his fifth consecutive 20+ haul for Los Blancos.

Madrid appear reluctant to sell but the thought of spearheading the United attack might just appeal to the 27-year-old.

Edinson Cavani – PSG

The unmitigated disaster that was Radamel Falcao’s United career could put some Red Devils fans off a move for another South American operating in France but Cavani could yet be the answer for United.

The 28-year-old has hit 55 goals in 95 games for PSG despite being played out wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Cavani would guarantee United a double-digit goal return but with Zlatan rumoured to be off he may just hang around to be the main man in Paris.

Javier Hernandez – Manchester United

Chicarito may have failed to set the world alight on loan at Madrid but still managed nine goals despite limited game time.

With United back in European competition the Mexican could be afforded more opportunities to return to the form that saw him smash 20 goals in his debut Red Devils campaign.

Christian Benteke – Aston Villa

The Belgian is hot property with a number of the Premier League’s top clubs in the market for a new striker with English top-flight experience.

United will face stiff competition from Arsenal and Chelsea again but if Marouane Fellaini can convince his compatriot to join him in the north-west United could well land the ideal replacement for RVP.
