Poll: Which Premier League side will start the brightest?

Published:

The wait is over, the first fixtures have been announced and we can all start planning those away days throughout August.

But what does that mean for those planning an assault on the top of the table?

The start of the campaign can set the scene for the rest of the season, so ending August on a high can be imperative.

With that in mind, we are asking you, which Premier League side will be top of the table at the end of the opening month of the season?

Chelsea

The champions – a trip to Manchester City aside – have been handed a relatively kind start. Home games against Swansea and Crystal Palace sit either side of a visit to the Hawthorns, with at least a double figure return surely the target for August.

However with a end of season slip up to West Brom on the penultimate match of the campaign just gone, they will need to improve on the seven point return from these fixtures in 2014-15

Manchester City

The Citizens have a visit of newcomers Watford to round off the month of August, but have a couple of potentially tricky away trips to Everton and West Brom before that.

The aforementioned game against Chelsea on August 15th could be an indicator of how far they have come in the close season as they look to wrestle back the crown stolen by Jose Mourinho’s men last season.

Manchester United

Improving on their away showings from last season could be key to Louis Van Gaal’s men getting off to a better start this time round.

They dropped five points at Aston Villa and Swansea last season, so must improve their showing their in the opening month this time around, while home games against Tottenham and Newcastle could prove a test.

Arsenal

Just two wins in their opening eight Premier League matches saw the Gunners get off to a sluggish start last season.

They kick off this campaign with two London derbies against West Ham and Crystal Palace, before a trip to Anfield precedes a visit of Steve McClaren’s Newcastle. With two sides with new managers set to take them on, could they slip up?

Southampton

Saints could be early value to start off the campaign well looking at their opening fixtures. With two promoted clubs in Norwich and Watford in their opening four matches, a bright start could be expected.

Throw in a visit of notoriously slow starters Everton and a Newcastle side that so often failed to fire last season, and they could begin brightly.
