Miazga hits it out of the ground with Swansea watching on

Swansea City’s interest in New York Red Bulls’ Matt Miazga is set to step up a notch if his performance last weekend is anything to go by.

Swans boss Garry Monk has reportedly sent a team to watch the 19-year-old centre back strut his stuff in the MLS.

It would be a surprise if they failed to be impressed as he kept former Barcelona star David Villa fairly quiet in a 3-1 victory over New York City.

What’s more, he went on to find the net for the side fourth place side in the Big Apple derby, registering his first professional goal.

Miazga was certainly aware of his surroundings of Yankee Stadium if his celebration is anything to go by…

The academy product has been described as a “prize prospect” for the Red Bulls, so it is unlikely that any pursuers would secure him without a struggle.

However, a relative look at the differences between the MLS and the Premier Leagues means that some outlets reporting that a bid of £2m would be more than enough to tempt his club to sell.

The Liberty Stadium outfit have already secured the signing of one defender this summer in the form of St Etienne’s Franck Tabanou, but with interest in a number of their current stoppers, more reinforcements could be required.

Reports have seen skipper Ashley Williams linked to Crystal Palace, while Kyle Bartley has been subject to interest from Aston Villa.

The Welsh outfit recorded a very solid eighth place finish last season, and are a tempting price of 6/5 to breach the top half of the table once again, with a visit of Newcastle first on the agenda for Monk’s men.
