Former Chelsea chief odds on in wacky next Leicester boss market

A fortnight on from Leicester’s sacking of controversial manager Nigel Pearson, the Foxes seem no closer to appointing a new boss, despite dramatic market movements since the 51-year-old’s departure.
Guus Hiddink, Neil Lennon, Martin O’Neill, Claudio Ranieri, former USA gaffer Bob Bradley and practically unheard of Serbian Predrag ‘Preki’ Radosavljevic have each been the subjects of gambles to take over at the King Power Stadium, although it seems candidates are now dropping like flies.
According to the Leicester Mercury, neither Hiddink nor O’Neill were interested, with the former balking at being asked to work in a supervisory role with a younger coach, while the latter won’t leave Ireland in the lurch during Euro 2016 qualifying.
Bradley and Radosavljevic, the 52-year-old former Everton midfielder whose biggest jobs in management so far have come in the MLS, are now all the way out to 12/1 and 20/1 respectively, which suggests rumours of their potential appointments were well wide of the mark.
Bolton boss Lennon, who turned out for Leicester 170 times between 1996-2000, is clearly interested in the gig and has steadfastly refused to rule out leaving the north west, but reports over the past week indicate that Foxes owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is in the hunt for a more experienced man.
That leaves 4/7 favourite Ranieri, who recently expressed his desire to return to the Premier League more than a decade after being sacked by Chelsea, but the 63-year-old Italian’s luckless career since suggests Srivaddhanaprabha should think again before bringing him in.
Spells with Valencia, Parma, Juventus, Roma, Inter, Monaco and Greece have all ended with Ranieri either sacked or slinking out the exit door quietly of his own volition, and his latest stint with the latter lasted all of four winless games before the axe fell.
Incidentally, Ladbrokes saw plenty of money come in for former West Ham boss Sam Allardyce over the weekend, with the out-of-work midlander now 3/1 third-favourite to be Leicester’s next top dog.
