Adebayor will struggle to reach double figures at Aston Villa

He may have once described Emmanuel Adebayor as “unstoppable” but our latest poll suggests Tim Sherwood may be slightly wide of the mark.

On the completion of the Togolese striker’s loan move to Aston Villa, we asked you how many goals he would net in that period.

And unfortunately for the Villans occurrences of the Sherwood/Adebayor salute are set to be a rare.

A total of 79 per cent of votes suggests that the former Arsenal man would be limited to 10 goals or less. Hardly a ringing endorsement for the player tasked with replacing Christian Benteke.

Even worse was that the majority of voters (44 per cent) tipped the 31-year-old to fail to reach six goals in the coming campaign, something he has done in three of his last five Premier League seasons.

Given a run of games though, and the hitman is capable of finding the net.

In the last six seasons that that he has featured 20 or more times in the Premier League, Adebayour has hit at least 11 goals, peaking way back in 2008 with 24 to his name.

While he may not be up to that level anymore, a solid number of appearances for the West Midlands club could see him reward the 18 per cent of voters that said he would score between 11 and 15 goals.

Three per cent of our voters may be giving ‘silly season’ a new meaning by suggesting Sherwood’s new weapon will score more than 20 times in 2015-16, something he has only achieved once in his career.

Villa will be hoping Adebayor surprises many this season, though for our readers it looks as if he could well be an overpaid flop at Villa Park.
