Poll: Help us unmask the @SecretTourPro ahead of the Open

While the players will be fine-tuning their drive, tinkering with their putting and practising their bunker shots, it can only mean the Open Championship is one day away.

Finding the winner of the only British major can be a tough ask, though with Jordan Spieth topping the market with Rory McIlroy crocked, he does stand out as a solid favourite.

But for now we are not interested in finding out who wins the St Andrews tournament, instead we are playing the role of detectives.

For some weeks now @SecretTourPro has been tantalising the Twittersphere with his identity as yet unknown.

So for today’s poll we want you to guess who the mystery man is. Here are our candidates…

Adam Scott

Judging by the tone of the mystery man’s tweets we are going down the (potentially flawed) route that he is an Aussie.

References to Victoria Bitter and referring to people as Poms may be a red herring, but we are going with it.

Throw in that our man has tweeted pictures of him wearing Footjoy DNA shoes, a brand Scott is a ambassador for, and his name enters calculations.

Marc Leishman

Another footjoy wearing Aussie, Leishman adds another potential angle to the quest for answers.

A follower of our mystery man tweeted a picture of the tee times for the first practice round at St Andrews.

To which @SecretTourPro responded “I was out early today”. And with Leishman booked in for the first possible slot at 7:10am, he ticks a couple of boxes.

Geoff Ogilvy

Even Ogilvy’s wife has tweeted to say that he is not the man in question, but all signs do make him a very strong candidate.

But from one follower tweeting him suggesting he’s set for a lay in on Thursday (later suggesting Ogilvy’s 1:23pm slot) and a cryptic clue about putting his ball on Ian Poulter’s balcony, which it turned out was Ogilvy, everything does add up for it to be the 38-year-old.

Jason Day

Another Aussie to fit the credentials, the mystery man was tweeting over the last weekend about being in Scotland, but made no reference to playing at the Scottish Open, and rather enjoyed a spot of surfing on Saturday.

That could well put Day in the frame, with him not taking in another competition the weekend ahead of his St Andrews experience.

Gregory Havret

A bit of a curveball in that we will have to assume that the Frenchman is putting on the Australian Twitter-accent for show and to lead us down the garden path.

Our suspicions have been aroused by the fact that while @SecretTourPro was busy posting photos from inside Ping’s tour truck, the company tweeted a photo of Havret inside.
