Kamara: Last eight at Euros all that can save Hodgson’s England job
Published:
England must get to the quarter finals of Euro 2016 if Roy Hodgson is to have a job after the tournament.
That is my belief, especially if reports are to be believed that a flop at the tournament in France means his spell in charge will not proceed further than next July.
Roy has already had a Euros and a World Cup, with little success, so with this he has a third bite at the cherry, and he himself will know that.
He knows this is perhaps his last opportunity with England and he has got to make sure that the team deliver at next year’s tournament.
He won’t need the media to come out and say “if England fail at the Euros, Hodgson has to go”, he already knows that.
And as a man with as much pedigree and as much character as Roy has, he can cope with that weight of expectation that is placed on his shoulders.
After not even making it out of the Group Stages at the World Cup in Brazil, we as a nation, want to see a more improved performance from the Three Lions.
And for me, while the chief of the FA Martin Glenn may have other ideas, reaching at least the last eight should be the bare minimum.
Of course, we’d all love to see England get to the final, and such an occasion may seem beyond our wildest dreams, but you never know.
I’m always hopeful, and shall be there in France cheering England on.
I’m not travelling all the way over there just to watch us make up the numbers.
When you see Belgium come from where they have to be the second highest ranked team in the world, and then you see Wales beat them, then we’ve always got to be hopeful.
We have always considered ourselves, in terms of strength in depth to be better than Wales, and they’ve gone and beaten the second best team in the world, so we’ve always got a chance.
