Kamara: Cech’s arrival means Arsenal are my pick for the title

Published:

Arsenal’s signing of Petr Cech is the missing piece of the jigsaw at the Emirates, and it is why I’m backing the Gunners to win the Premier League this season.

With the eve of the campaign upon us, I really believe the stoppers arrival is the best piece of business down this summer.

Everyone said they needed a centre half in the transfer window but I’m not sure about that.  I just think they needed a voice, and the former Chelsea man can be that voice.

They’ve had the problem over the years that when they’ve conceded a goal nobody has taken responsibility whatsoever, not one single player.

They all keep their heads down, and nobody has a go at anybody. The goalkeeper just sticks his arms out and they don’t shout at each other.

I don’t think Arsene Wenger is a shouter in the dressing room either, so maybe it’s just something that runs through the football club.

But now with Cech they have a player that screams at his defenders and really doesn’t want to concede goals, doesn’t want anybody slacking at the back.

So to have somebody with his experience and his vocal ability to come into that defensive unit, it could be an immense signing for them.

I backed Chelsea to do the business last year, and I’m going for back-to-back successes by tipping the north London side to triumph at what looks like too big a price of 7/2.

That being said, the lack of deals done by the defending champs isn’t necessarily a negative.

They won the title in good style last year, so they obviously haven’t got a bad team already, maybe Jose’s got faith in the same players doing the business once again this season.

Apart from the aforementioned Cech, who wasn’t first choice in goal, they haven’t really lost anybody.

They’ve brought in Falcao, who, if back to full fitness would be a great addition to the squad.

He doesn’t look like that at the moment but when you’ve been out with an injury like he has it takes time and it still might be troubling him.

One of the challengers that have been splashing the cash are Manchester United.

After the arrival of Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, Louis van Gaal has said himself that one more marquee signing and he will be happy.

But I’m like everyone else and surprised that he hasn’t brought in another centre half.

He has spent a lot of money and obviously has a lot of confidence in Rojo, Blind, Smalling and Jones at the back.

If they get another striker to play up front alongside Rooney than yes, they have a good chance, but as I think more work needs to be done, to topple Chelsea and my picks for success Arsenal.
