Ladbrokes Championship: Gers and Buddies tipped for goals

Published:

St Mirren found out last week that Rangers are not hanging around in trying to build their title charge and unfortunately for Alloa that could mean even more goals from the free-scoring Glaswegians this weekend.

The title favourites aren’t the only ones expected to be at the thick of the action though, with high scoring encounters expected at St Mirren Park and Almondvale in the Championship this week.

Here’s Ladbrokes News’ rundown of the second round of Championship ties.

Falkirk v Raith Rovers

Falkirk’s impressive cup form before the start of the league failed to carry over against Morton last week, with the Bairns (5/6) failing to convert an early lead into three points.

Raith, however, managed to build on two wins and two clean sheets in the cups to record a comprehensive 3-0 win over Livingston. Rovers may have only won one of the last nine meetings but unless the hosts can up their game that run could improve this weekend.

Best Bet: Raith Rovers – 3/1

Hibernian v Greenock Morton

Hibs (1/3) manager Alan Stubbs claims the Scott Allan saga is distracting his players so the Hibees will need to focus if they are to avoid a second successive defeat.

Luckily the hosts enjoy a solid record against Morton (8/1) and with Jim Duffy’s side winning just one of 19 on the road the odds looks justified here.

Best Bet: Hibs -1 – 10/11

Livingston v Queen of the South

Livingston (11/5) were soundly beaten 3-0 by Raith last time out, while this weekend’s opponents Queen of the South (6/5) were impressive in their 3-1 win over Alloa.

With two of the last three meetings seeing over 3.5 goals and both sides seeing plenty of goal action already the 15/8 on four or more strikes here looks the best way to go.

Best Bet: Over 3.5 goals – 15/8

St Mirren v Dumbarton

Newly-relegated St Mirren (4/9) were welcomed to the second tier with a bump when losing 3-1 to Rangers last weekend to make it just four wins in 12 competitive games.

However, while Dumbarton (6/1) picked up some confidence in beating Hibs the aggregate score of 16-0 to the Buddies over the last four meetings suggests the Championship new boys appear poised to bounce back in style – with a win to nil at 11/8 looking a shrew option.

Best Bet: St Mirren win to nil – 11/8

Alloa Athletic v Rangers

Alloa have won just three of their last 25 Championship matches so it’s clear to see why title favourites Rangers are the 2/5 jollies here.

Athletic have conceded six goals in their last two games and with Rangers already hitting top gear – with 12 goals in three – the 11/8 on over 2.5 Gers goals could attract plenty of attention.

Best Bet: Over 2.5 Rangers goals – 11/8
