Man of the moment Pedro tops best debut poll

Either a lot of you have short memories or Pedro’s man of the match performance on his Chelsea debut really was something special.

The Spaniard topped our latest poll with 65 per cent of voters deeming his star turn to be better than the likes of Alan Shearer’s maiden appearance for Blackburn and Fabrizio Ravanelli’s efforts for Middlesbrough.

Following his recent arrival from Barcelona, Pedro scored and laid on an assist in the champions’ 3-2 victory over West Brom yesterday.

His display was a bright spark on a fairly eventful afternoon at the Hawthorns with Blues skipper John Terry receiving his marching orders having brought down Baggies striker Salomon Rondon.

Sergio Aguero’s brace on debut against Swansea four years ago was voted the next best on our list with the Argentine scooping 13 per cent.

Meanwhile, we delved further back in to Premier League history to pull out another trio of candidates.

Ravanelli scored an incredible hat-trick for Boro against Liverpool in 1996 but still only managed to finish in third place.

Paolo Wanchope, way before he was seen scrapping with security guards, made an instant impact for Derby away at Manchester United but struggled to impose himself on our readers.

And then last but not least, Alan Shearer’s worldie strikes against Crystal Palace in 1992 failed to persuade many of you that his was the best Premier League debut.
