Two Premier League new boys featured in our player of the week poll

Published:

We had upsets, red cards, wonder goals and controversy in what was an epic weekend. The Premier League is back with a bang!

But from 10-man Chelsea’s draw, to Arsenal’s surprise defeat, there were players that made the opening week of the campaign that little bit special.

That’s why for today’s poll we want to know who stood out for you.

Vote now on which player stole the show for you from our five candidates…

Matteo Darmian

Being named Man of the Match by the Manchester United fans on your Red Devils debut isn’t a bad way to adorn yourself to Old Trafford faithful.

The 25-year-old Italian looked assured at the back, but was more than capable of putting in one or two dangerous runs down the right hand side as United overcame an impressive Tottenham outfit.

Yohan Cabaye

Many were hailing Alan Pardew a genius for bringing the Frenchman to Crystal Palace over the summer, and the former Newcastle man certainly vindicated his manager’s faith.

Despite the fact he has played little competitive football since leaving these shores 12 months ago, Cabaye retained plenty of the class we’d come to expect, and rounded off an excellent performance with the Eagles’ third goal against Norwich.

Jefferson Montero

Much was made on social media of the runaround the Ecuadorian gave to Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

A constant threat, the pace and trickery of the winger helped Swansea to a much deserved point against the defending champions in west London, his dinking cross  the catalyst to the visitors’ first goal.

Reece Oxford

Slaven Bilic said that even coming face-to-face with Lionel Messi wouldn’t faze the 16-year-old, after putting in an accomplished Premier League debut that belied his years.

He  recorded the highest pass completion rate on the pitch against Arsenal, kept £42m man Mesut Ozil quiet for much of the match at the Emirates, as the Hammers marched to a shock win.

Philippe Coutinho

It’s a good job Brendan Rodgers changed his mind about bringing the Brazilian off against Stoke on Sunday, as the 23-year-old drilled home a long range wonder goal to hand Liverpool the three points.

An early contender for goal of the season saw Coutinho hailed as world class by some, and the Reds’ saviour by others.
