Snapshot into England’s future strike force if Spurs get Berahino?

If Tottenham are successful in landing West Brom striker Saido Berahino before the transfer window takes its autumn breather, then a salivating prospect lies in store for Lilywhites and potentially England fans too.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino has reiterated that the club are working hard to sign another forward in order to offer last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year Harry Kane some much-needed support.
Those endeavours seem almost exclusively devoted to prising Berahino away from the Hawthorns, with reputable national paper the Independent speculating that Spurs are about to up their offer into a more workable ballpark.
Tony Pulis and co have understandably set the bar surrounding their own version of Kane very high, with £25m rumoured to be the magic number for any deal to take place.
This is something Spurs are now taking seriously according to the newspaper and if the price is right, Pochettino’s comments provide evidence that Roy Hodgson will become a very frequent visitor to White Hart Lane this season.
“I think we need one more striker to be sure for different games, sometimes to play together,” said Pochettino.
“This season we can play in two different options, two different systems. We worked very hard in the pre-season to improve, because we need to play in different [ways]. Like we played against Stoke, with two strikers, Nacer Chadli and Harry Kane.”
While Chadli’s return of 11 Premier League goals last season certainly makes the winger a viable option to partner Kane, a specialist striker such as Berahino is what the doctor really ordered.
Kane’s tendency to drop into a number 10 position means the Lane idol could hypothetically work particularly well in tandem with Berahino, who is most adept at playing on the shoulder of the last defender.
Given Daniel Sturridge’s Three Lions future is dependent on his body holding firm, something it couldn’t do for toffee last season, there is genuine potential that a partnership cultivated in north London could easily translate onto the international stage.
