Great Dane is the great omission from Fergie’s world class club

In his own words Sir Alex Ferguson only ever coached four world class players during his tenure at Manchester United, but if one more were to be added to that elusive list, it should be a big brute of a goalkeeper, according to Ladbrokes News voters.
Ferguson, who retired from management in 2013, declared to the BBC that Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo as the four players he deemed ‘world class’ while at Old Trafford.
We wanted to know which other former United player would be included in that club should Ferguson ever change his mind and turn his fearsome four into a fantastic five.
Coming home with 48 per cent of the vote was Peter Schmeichel, and it’s not too difficult to see why when Ferguson himself labelled the great Dane ‘the bargain of the century’.
Second-place went to Roy Keane who arguably would have made the world class cut barring the duo’s personal differences down the years.
Fergie fledging David Beckham came in third, and again one could cite personal differences between the two for Becks’ omission from the world class bracket.
Current United skipper Wayne Rooney came fourth with 10 per cent of the votes, while Rio Ferdinand‘s defensive exploits over a 12-year Old Trafford career could only claim the wooden spoon with 6 per cent.
