Guardiola appointment would be welcomed by England fans

Pep Guardiola has received the backing of England fans, according to the latest Ladbrokes News poll.

Rumours have been circulating that suggest the FA are set to offer the Bayern Munich boss the job of coaching the Three Lions after Euro 2016 with a reported £10m a year contract in the offing.

Pep’s response?

He walked out of a press conference today when asked whether he’d consider becoming Roy Hodgson’s successor.

Was he being coy or is the Spanish supremo genuinely not interested?

However he’s feeling, 67 per cent of voters have made it clear that they want the decorated manager to assume the hot seat once his contract at Bayern expires next summer.

And Ladbrokes have made him a 16/1 shot for the job.

Both Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello have broken the mould as foreign managers who’ve been placed in charge of England so there is a precedent set.

And if you believe the latest paper talk then it seems conceivable the FA’s top brass would once again consider hiring a manager from abroad, especially one with Guardiola’s credentials.

The 44-year-old has himself questioned whether he’s the right man to take his current club forward, leading to speculation around his long-term future in Bavaria.

And with Bayern themselves admitting they’ll only discuss a contract extension once Pep is ready there has been plenty to fan the flames.
