Kamara: Man United have a goalscoring machine in Martial

Manchester United and Louis van Gaal may have got a lot of stick for splashing £36m on a relatively unknown Frenchman on deadline day, but what a masterstroke it has turned out to be.

Anthony Martial so far has been a machine, an absolute machine.

To his credit what he has done has been to retort the suggestion from people like myself claiming that Manchester United had spent too much money.

It’s early days, let’s not get carried away, but whoever went out and watched him and convinced Louis van Gaal to spend all that money on him has done a magnificent job.

They’ve got a goal machine who’s relishing the challenge that is the Premier League.

Some players turn up at Old Trafford and struggle to produce what they did at their previous club, whereas other players relish it, for example the likes of Eric Cantona, and enjoy being on that big stage.

Martial, at this moment in time, is one of those who is loving playing for Manchester United, and probably couldn’t have dreamt for a better start.

It’s early, but you can only say what you see so far. In those few games he’s been great, but we are now talking about over a whole season. Will he continue to score the goals in the same fashion that he has? We don’t know.

Will he continue to be the top performer every week for Manchester United? Will the Premier League take its toll like it does on quite a lot of other players?

Quotes of 12/1 to be Top Premier League Goalscorer and 7/1 to win the PFA Young Player of the Year are interesting, but he needs to keep it up.

You can never get carried away in this league. You can be fourth in the table like Big Sam was this time last year with West Ham, then you can end up out of work, you can never get ahead of yourself.

As so far as the Golden Boot goes, I wouldn’t bet on the likes of Callum Wilson staying at the top for the rest of the season.

Callum has done fantastic, but there’s going to be lots and lots of games where Bournemouth are going to be on the back foot and he might only get one chance in the whole match.

He’s not going to be top-goalscorer, he knows that, Eddie Howe knows that. I’d want treble the 16/1 odds on offer if you were going to be sensible about things.

The Top Goalscorer market is one of the best and most simple markets around. It’s a case of looking for which teams are going to have the most chances and who those opportunities fall to.

If Manchester City continue to dominate the Premier League then of course it is going to be Sergio Aguero.

It’s always going to come down to the big boys at the big clubs with the likes of Aguero, Diego Costa, Wayne Rooney, Alexis Sanchez, and maybe even Anthony Martial being the ones to back.
