Poll: Can anyone stop Ronaldo and Messi in Champions League

Published:

Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi have topped the Champions League scoring charts for each of the last eight seasons.

OK, the deadly duo shared the accolade with Messi’s team-mate Neymar last year but the Brazilian aside, no one else has topped the chart since Kaka bagged 10 for AC Milan back in 2006-07.

Ronaldo picked up his first gong while at Manchester United in 2007-08 and has also claimed the title in 2012-13, 2013-14, scoring a record 17 goals, and again last year.

Messi, meanwhile, collected his first top scorer record in 2008-09 and held onto the title until 2011-12.

The Argentine has now been Champions League top scorer five times to Ronaldo’s four and after the Real Madrid ace bagged a hat-trick in his side’s 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk it appears to be another two horse race.

Ronaldo is now the 7/4 favourite to be crowned again this year, with Messi seemingly his only rival at 10/3.

Luis Suarez (10/1), Neymar (12/1) and Antoine Griezmann (14/1) make up the top five in the betting but can anyone halt the world’s biggest stars?

That’s what we’re asking the Ladbrokes News readers to decide today. Let us know who you think will be crowned the Champions League’s top goals corer this season – CR7, Lionel or anyone else – by voting in the poll below.
