Rooney will reach Drogba’s international goal total

Wayne Rooney is set to match Didier Drogba’s international goal tally for the Ivory Coast, according to Ladbrokes News voters.

Having surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton’s record last night to net his 50th goal for the Three Lions, attention has now turned towards how many more strikes the 29-year-old can bag for his country.

We posed the question alongside a number of totals from fellow international luminaries.

Rooney passed Thierry Henry’s total of 51 goals with only 7 per cent of voters thinking that the Manchester United striker would notch one more solitary strike.

However, a sizeable 32 per cent think that he may only match Samuel Eto’o’s total.

The Cameroonian scored 56 goals in his international career.

But with Roo still set to be a permanent fixture in the national side for the next few years at least, perhaps that’s a harsh assessment.

Matching Drogba won the day though with Rooney tipped to notch 65 goals by the time he calls his England career to a close.

Getting near to Stern John’s 70-goal haul for Trinidad and Tobago looks like it’ll be a little tougher though with only 14 per cent of you backing Rooney to do just that.

Meanwhile, Pele’s 77 goals on the international stage is a feat the Manchester United striker can only dream of.

At least, that’s what you’ve told us.
