Champions League Acca: Leverkusen to let rip on Roma

Published:

The Champions League makes a welcome return this week and Tuesday’s round of matches offers plenty of food for thought for acca backers.

We’ve followed (most of) the favourites when compiling this five-fold and although that may not seem particularly adventurous, it should guarantee some returns.

The good news is that Ladbrokes have extended their 5+ Acca offer to cover the midweek European action.

Here are our five silver bullets…

Bayer Leverkusen to beat Roma

Leverkusen are still chugging along in the Bundesliga but they’ve been a different beast in Europe, thrashing Lazio 3-0 in the qualifying round and then BATE Borisov 4-1 in the group stages.

By contrast, their opponents haven’t won any of their last six away matches in the Champions League, including a 3-2 defeat to BATE last time out in the competition.

Barcelona to beat BATE Borisov

Much has been made of Barca’s indifferent form without talisman Lionel Messi but this trip to Belarus shouldn’t pose too many problems.

The Catalans thrashed BATE 5-0 and 4-0 in the 2011-12 edition and while they may not secure a similarly emphatic victory this evening they should still have more than enough to grab all three points.

The hosts are without top scorer Vitali Rodionov which is a big blow for them but further reason to cheer if you’re lumping on Barca.

Chelsea to draw with Dynamo Kiev

A 3-0 thrashing by Ukrainian rivals Shakthar Donestk is hardly ideal preparation for Dynamo Kiev’s latest assignment.

But that result aside, Sergei Rebrov’s outfit are in good form, winning 12 and drawing two of their 14 matches so far this term.

And with Chelsea hardly in rude health themselves and likely to play it safe, the draw looks a decent option.

The Blues have shared the spoils in four of their last eight away games in European football’s premier competition and another stalemate is worth backing.

Porto to beat Maccabi Tel Aviv

It’s not hard to see why Porto are heavy favourites to claim another valuable three points with this contest the mismatch of the round.

Maccabi will still be smarting from defeats to Chelsea and Dynamo Kiev, matches where they mustered just two shots on target over 180 minutes.

And with their Portuguese hosts winning each of their last 19 home matches another fruitless evening is in store.

Zenit to beat Lyon

Zenit are lagging way behind their domestic rivals but their form in this season’s Champions League has been solid enough to suggest they can overcome the challenge of Lyon.

The Russians have recorded back-to-back wins over Valencia and Ghent respectively and their home form in the competition is suitably impressive with just three defeats in their previous 14 games.

Lyon carry a threat but they’re still worth opposing given their patchy start to the season.
