Poll: The price of football – are we getting value for money?

The BBC’s Price of Football investigation could either have been a further realisation that fans are being priced out of the game, or a small nod of encouragement that something is being done, depending on your outlook.
Its report noted that 70 per cent of match-day ticket prices were either held or reduced for the season ahead.
However the findings also reveal that for the first time, the cheapest ticket in the Premier League now costs upwards of £30 on average, with Leicester City leading the way for affordable football with a £22 offering.
The cost of season tickets also came under scrutiny, with the cheapest in the top flight, at Stoke, costing just shy of £300.
A bigger picture is painted about English football in general when you consider that National League side Eastleigh’s £120 season ticket is the lowest cost in the top five leagues.
That doesn’t sound too bad, until you consider the fact that you can get a similar offering at a small German club called Bayern Munich for £104.48.
With all due respect to the Hampshire side, we think most would choose the Allianz Arena over the Silverlake Stadium, given the choice.
Once fans have shelled out for their costly tickets to even get to a game, the expenditure doesn’t stop there, with food and drink not coming cheaply.
That is, unless you are watching Essex outfit Braintree where you can pick up a cup of tea for 60p and a pie for £1.
Surprisingly the most expensive pie didn’t come at the Emirates or Old Trafford, instead that honour went to Kidderminster Harriers in the fifth tier of English football.
Did they feel shamed about forcing fans to shell out £4.50 a pie? Of course they didn’t…

That brings us on to today’s poll. Many fans agree that they would be willing to pay more money if they were watching quality football and eating quality pies.
