Poll: Which Cristiano Ronaldo goal is the best?

Published:

After netting goal number 500 and 501 in Wednesday night’s Champions League victory over Malmo, we want to know which is Cristiano Ronaldo’s best ever strike?

With 446 club goals in addition to 55 for Portugal, the statistics are barely believable for a man who won’t turn 31 until February.

Ladbrokes News have put forward five of Ronaldo’s finest.

Simply place your vote for the one you think is the best, and if there’s any other goals you think are worthy, let us know in the comments below!

Fulham v Man Utd – 2006/07

His fourth season at United culminated in Ronaldo’s first Premier League title. Equally it was the first campaign in which he hit double figures, notching 17 in 34 league games.

Arguably the pick of those was a stunning solo run at Fulham.

Receiving the ball well inside his own half, the winger breezed past two Fulham players,  before cutting into the 18 yard box and firing home to put United 2-1 up in the dying minutes. It only took eight seconds.

Man Utd v Portsmouth – 2007/08

The goal which showcased Ronaldo’s unique and explosive free-kick style to the world.

Taking the set-piece in a Premier League encounter with Portsmouth, the Portuguese man carefully placed the ball 25 yards out.

After a precise couple of steps back, Ronaldo produced a bolting free-kick which dipped and deviated through the air in a way which hadn’t been seen before.

Portsmouth keeper David James simply didn’t move.

Wannabe-Ronaldos started copying the technique everywhere and it quickly became a popular feature on FIFA games too.

Porto v Man Utd – 2008/09

Having drawn 2-2 in the first leg of this Champions League quarter-final tie, United knew a goal was required to safeguard progression into the last four.

They didn’t have to wait long in the Estadio de Dragao as Ronaldo provided the winner.

In just the sixth minute, Ronaldo received the ball a solid 40 yards out and promptly decided to shoot.

He did, and the ball rocketed into the top corner to become one of the most stunning Champions League goals of all time as the Red Devils marched on to that year’s final.

Arsenal v Man Utd 2008/09

In the semi-final following that Porto victory, Ronaldo did it again, this time past a hapless Manuel Almunia.

Standing over a free-kick 30 yards out and on the angle. The United forward unleashed a ferocious free-kick to find a gap into the goal which nobody, especially Almunia was expecting.

But of course, Ronaldo knew what he was doing all along.

Rayo Vallecano v Real Madrid 2011-2012

Not all of Ronaldo’s best goals require thunderbolt strikes.

He’s scored plenty of subtle and cheeky efforts in his time. None more so than in 2012 against Rayo Vallecano.

After a goalmouth scramble following a corner, Ronaldo chased the ball away from goal and promptly backheeled it from 12 yards through a crowd of stunned players.

Had anyone else tried it they would have looked rather foolish.

Vote now and let us know which one you think is Cristiano’s best.
