Spurs want flavour of the month to bolster thin front line

| 25.10.2015

Harry Kane knows only too well what number cloud Jamie Vardy is on this season, having been the English striking sensation that took the Premier League by storm last term.

Now, as the Tottenham forward struggles to recapture the golden touch that saw him net 30 times for the north Londoners in 2014/15, Vardy is blazing his own trail at Leicester.

The 28-year-old is the unquestionable hot English hand in the league this season, leading the division’s scoring charts with 10 goals in as many appearances.

Predictably, that form has seen the former Sheffield Wednesday youth linked with a big January move, with Spurs, ironically, the club looking to take the plunge.

Having sold Roberto Soldado and released Emmanuel Adebayor, the Lilywhites are particularly light in backup strikers to Kane, a problem made worse by the front man’s goal struggles.

So it’s understandable that the Daily Mirror suppose that Mauricio Pochettino and co will make a bid for the Foxes’ main man when the winter transfer window opens.

Of course, Leicester are extremely unlikely to want to sell given the impact Vardy is having on their season – the former non-league player has scored exactly half of the Foxes’ league goals – and it will take a large bid to even begin to change their minds.

A similar issue arose in Spurs’ pursuit of West Brom’s Saido Berahino this summer and it’s difficult to see Vardy switching the midlands for the capital after Christmas.

For one, the start Vardy is guaranteed at the King Power Stadium wouldn’t be matched at White Hart Lane and with a spot in England’s Euro 2016 squad up for grabs, the striker would be mad to restrict himself to less game time considering the form he’s in.

After Vardy’s latest strike propelled Claudio Ranieri’s men to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, the Foxes sit in fifth spot in the Premier League and are 33/1 to finish in the top four with Ladbrokes.
