Andy Murray is your pick to be Sports Personality of the Year

| 01.12.2015

The shortlist has been announced and the public have spoken. Andy Murray is the standout pick to be this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year after beating off 11 other rivals for the prestigious accolade.

At least, that’s how our readers have called it.

In a precursor to the main event itself on December 20 we asked you who should win SPOTY 2015 and it was the Great Britain tennis star who came out on top with 34 per cent of the vote.

Having won all 11 of his Davis Cup rubbers this year en route to helping GB secure a first title since 1936, Murray acted as the focal point of his team’s success.

And now it seems that the public want to see his efforts rewarded for a second time with the 28-year-old also scooping the award two years ago following his Wimbledon triumph.

The bookies are certainly running scared with Muzza the 5/6 hot favourite to land the gong in Belfast.

As for the remaining candidates, rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield came second in our poll following a year that saw him clinch an historic treble with Leeds Rhinos before switching codes.

Meanwhile, newly-crowned world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury took bronze as the rest of our dazzling dozen were left filling the places below.
