Darren Jackson thinks Dundee United are ‘guaranteed survival’

Dundee United are currently seven points adrift at the bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership but Darren Jackson believes the Terrors can pull off a great escape.
Speaking to BBC Sport the former first-team coach has given his full support to the club’s survival bid.
He said: “I think they’ll stay up. I would guarantee they’ll get out of the situation.”
United have only won two league games all season and are 1/2 with the sponsors to finish bottom of the table at the end of the campaign.
It’s a situation that contributed to the axing of Jackie McNamara and his backroom staff, including Jackson.
However, the ex-United striker is backing new manager Mixu Paatelainen to turn things around once the club’s injury crisis subsides.
“Mixu’s brought in a couple of players which he hopes can improve the squad. We thought we had a good squad” he added.
“We thought we made good signings, but at the start of the season when you lost Paul Paton, you lost Ryan Dow, you lost Chris Erskine, you lost Callum Morris, we brought those players in to complement the players we had there.
“The players that are out are experienced players. Morris will get himself more fitness, Erskine will get fitter, Dow was a big player for us and Paton was a big player. ”
“Once they’re back I’ve got no doubt they’ll get out the situation.”
Recent trends suggest avoiding relegation will be a tough ask for the Tannadice outfit.
In eight of the last 10 seasons the team bottom of the table at Christmas has succumbed to the drop with only Aberdeen in 2010-11 and Hamilton in 2008-09 finding a way to climb out of trouble.
Next up for the Terrors is the visit of Motherwell on Boxing Day. The hosts are 13/10 to pick up three precious points while ‘Well are priced at 19/10 and the draw a 12/5 shot.
