Kamara: Garde’s stance on Jack Grealish is a massive risk

Published:

Aston Villa boss Remi Garde has confirmed for the second match running that Jack Grealish has been left out of the squad because of his antics in pubs and nightclubs at the weekend.

While you could argue he’s done wrong and been badly advised, I’m not so sure this is the stance I would take with him.

They are obviously teaching him a lesson. He is a bit of a maverick, but is there not room in the game anymore for mavericks?

There have always been ‘bad boys’ in football, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before.

Do we now have to make sure every single player behaves themselves and toes the line to the letter when they are not on the football pitch?

Just fine him a couple of week’s wages and try to force him to learn his lesson.

Unless he’s not physically capable of playing it’s strange for me that Garde has decided to not only deprive Grealish of game-time, but also leave the team without the services of one of their best players.

It’s a massive stance to be taking, it looks a huge risk with the club in the position that they are.

Garde doesn’t really know him, he’s arrived at the club with a clean slate and his own ideas of rules. He’s got a way that he feels footballers should conduct themselves and Grealish has obviously over-stepped that mark forcing him to take the stance that he has.

He’s been in the press stating that the Christmas period “is party time, but not for us”, and with the Villans struggling at the bottom of the table, things need to be done, but leaving one of your best players out for two straight games could quite easily back-fire in this situation.
