Kamara: Swansea target Rodgers is not waiting for England job

The talk in the papers today is that Brendan Rodgers is set to turn down the chance to return to Swansea in favour of waiting for the England job in the summer. And that’s all it is, paper talk.

I can categorically say that waiting for the Three Lions role has not crossed his mind.

I know Brendan very well, he’s a friend of mine and we speak constantly, and the only thing at this moment of time that he is concerned about is having a break.

Whether now that the Swansea job has become available he reconsiders, I don’t know, but he was working solidly in the game for quite some time before leaving Liverpool.

He was so determined to be a success at Anfield and he got so close to winning the Premier League title, but it didn’t quite happen.

The following campaign it all went wrong for him, with every decision he made seemingly going against him.

It’s just a case of him having been going a long time, he just wants a break.

I wouldn’t for one moment rule him out returning to Swansea and suggest that it is off his radar, but in my opinion it might have come too soon for Brendan.

The New Year would be my guess for when he wants to return to management, but then again that could be a risk with no guarantee on what roles will be available.

As far as Garry Monk’s sacking goes, I have to say I think it’s a very harsh move from Swansea and it’s easy to see why Huw Jenkins said the decision came with a heavy heart.

They worked so hard to get where they did last season, and when you consider that their best Premier League position was with Monk at the helm then to see him sacked six months later is a bit of a shock.

He’s gone from being the best young manager about to being out of a job in the same calendar year.

I can, however, see where the club is coming from. They are looking at results, and with one league win in their last 11 matches they need the points.

Sentiment hasn’t come into it for Swansea City. It’s come down to basic facts.

They need a manager that can get them results and they don’t see Monk as that man anymore which I do think is harsh as he’s done it before, so I don’t see why he can’t do it again.

I don’t think there is any risk involved of undoing any of the hard work that has been put in by Monk and his staff, as that philosophy and way of playing has been instilled in the club since the days of Roberto Martinez.

They’ve got the players to deliver that type of football, but there’s a spark missing.

Now it’s down to the Swansea board to find a man that can rekindle that spark and take them back up to where they were last season.

When they made the decision to sack Monk you’d have to think that they already had somebody in mind.

Finding a great manager is tough, because there aren’t that many top bosses about, but Premier League clubs always seem to find someone from somewhere and you’d expect the Welsh club to be closing in on their target already.
