Man City v Monchengladbach: Both teams set for Etihad goals

Published:

Preparations for their final Champions League game couldn’t have been more polar opposite for Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach.

While a depleted Citizens outfit were ran ragged by a Stoke side playing in anything but traditional Stoke style, the Germans were causing an upset of their own in handing Pep Guardiola’s side their first Bundesliga loss of the season.

Although Yaya Toure was back in training ahead of the European encounter, his expected return to Manuel Pellegrini’s lineup won’t immediately solve the Chilean’s defensive troubles.

Just two clean sheets in 18 all-competition games points to how frail City’s backline has been this term. The side have conceded in all of their last five outings, which is a run that coincides with skipper Vincent Kompany’s spell on the sidelines.

With the Foals scoring in all but two matches since Andre Schubert replaced the resigning Lucien Favre after the first games of the season, it can be no surprise that Ladbrokes price the visitors up at 4/11 to score over 0.5 goals.

With that in mind, the 1/2 about both teams scoring is also predictably short, especially as City have netted in every game this term. The price isn’t too short to lump on though, considering the favourable stats in the bet’s favour.

Among them is the lengthy chain of games at the Etihad Stadium where both teams have bagged, a run that currently stands at 10 games unbroken. The bet has also landed in four of the club’s previous five Champions League games.

Of course, it could be that far bigger odds are sought for the clash. In that instance, two of Ladbrokes’ special offers should be the first port of call.

The first sees a price boost on Raheem Sterling scoring in a City win, which is out to 5/2 from 2/1. The second is the bookmaker’s marquee offer on televised games where customers can double their odds on their first goalscorer selections.
