Manchester United man crowned Premier League’s flop of 2015

When it comes to flattering to deceive this year, no man has disappointed more than Memphis Depay, according to Ladbrokes’ latest poll.

The Manchester United forward has been crowned flop of the season by readers, picking up 48 per cent of the vote.

After an excellent World Cup in 2014, and the climax of an awesome season for PSV in his homeland, much was expected of the £30m man.

But with his free-kick wonderstrikes at a premium and errors, including the one which handed Stoke their opening goal on Boxing Day proving more commonplace, the 21-year-old topped our poll.

In truth, it was tight, and there was only one man that Memphis was doing battle with as the day went on.

Radamel Falcao just missed out on the distinguished accolade when attracting 45 per cent of the vote after his spell at Chelsea continued in the same vein his Old Trafford stay had finished.

The Colombian was unable to improve on his 52 La Liga goals in 68 games for Atletico Madrid any more than adding four Premier League goals in a season on loan at Old Trafford, before opting to switch to the capital in the summer.

But it has been much of the same for the 29-year-old, netting just once in his spell at Stamford Bridge, as the defending champions have badly struggled.

The aforementioned pair were miles clear of the rest, but a mention must go to Swansea City striker Eder and wantaway Crystal Palace loanee Patrick Bamford, who attracted four per cent and three per cent of the votes respectively.

Neither have found the net in 387 minutes of football combined for their clubs this season, and it wouldn’t be a major surprise if both found themselves looking for new sides in January.

The big winner (as it were) in today’s poll goes to Chelsea forward Pedro who managed to avoid getting a single vote.

After getting on the scoresheet on his Blues debut against West Brom, the former Barcelona man has failed to press on though, netting just two further goals.

In the end though, what he has contributed for the struggling champions was deemed enough as he got off scot-free compared to his team-mate Falcao and poll ‘victor’ Memphis.
