Bookies think north east pair will be busiest on Transfer Deadline Day

Published:

The January Transfer Window slams shut at 23:00 GMT this evening and the bookies reckon Newcastle and Sunderland will be amongst the busiest Premier League clubs on Deadline Day.

Ladbrokes make the Toon Army 9/2 favourites to sign the most players on February 1 while local rivals Sunderland are priced at 5/1.

Rock bottom Aston Villa are next in line at 6s while notoriously fastidious Arsenal are available at 33/1 to conduct the most business.

Magpies boss Steve McClaren has already made some significant purchases this month, signing defender Henri Saivet for an undisclosed fee from Bordeaux as well as bringing in midfielders Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend for a collective sum of £24m from Swansea and Tottenhan respectively.

And with both Newcastle and Sam Allardyce’s Black Cats facing the very real threat of relegation the odds suggest that the north east pair are likely to attempt to spend their way out of trouble.

According to reports the former have already made moves for Roma’s Seydou Doumbia and West Brom’s wantaway striker, Saido Berahino, hinting that the bookies could have this particular market spot on.
